1. Enjoy Nature & History – The Roman Aqueduct Of Peña Cortada

Want to explore the beautiful nature around Valencia? It is totally worth a short car ride! There are simply mind-blowing sites to be visited. Here is a list of my favorite ideas for a nature day trip from Valencia by car.

This is a glorious 2nd century Roman Aqueduct that was used to supply water to the nearby villages. It’s a striking scene to see upon turning around the corner and discovering it for the first time.

To get to the aqueduct you will need to walk along a trail for about 20 minutes from the car parking space. After crossing the bridge you can go further through the former water canal carved by the Romans directly in the mountain.

Why: striking views, history, an easy hike

When: any time of the year, but beware going during rainy or windy weather

Where: Drive to Chelva. Take the street Barrio Lomo Ermita B. See on Google Maps

2. A Pure Nature Getaway – Montanejos Hot Springs

Not surprisingly, this is one of the main natural attractions of the region. These hot springs were one of the favorite relaxing places used by the Moors in Valencia many centuries ago. Clear warm water and stunning cliffs guarantee a nice setting to wind down not too far from the city.

Why: Hot springs maintain water temperature at 25 degrees C.

When: all year round

Where: See on Google Maps

3. Ancient Natural Formations – Underground River

If stalactites is your thing, do not miss out on this fun tour.

The boat ride lasts for 45 minutes. First you are taken along the underground river. Then you are dropped off to walk among the rocks to the pick-up location. The caves are nicely lit and there is enough space, so it’s unlikely you would feel claustrophobic. The boat is on the other end to pick you up again and take you back to the exit.

Leave your car in the parking space not far from Sant Josep Caves and buy tickets from a little kiosk prior to lining up at the caves entrance.

Why: an extraordinary experience of riding a boat underground

When: all year round hourly (in summer – more frequently) from 10.00 am till 1.00 pm & from 3.30 pm till 5.30 pm.

Where: See on Google Maps
